I Love Traditional Gender Roles

“While attention is usually drawn to the blessing of God 'Be fruitful and multiply', as the basis for the procreation of children, it is striking that these same words are used of other animals (Gen. 1:22) even though they are not said to be 'male and female'; both animals and people multiply and procreate, only human beings are specified as male and female in the creation account of Genesis. In other words, it is possible there is an intimation of something in human existence, as male and female, greater than the ability to procreate. What this further dimension might relate to is intimated by the parallel construction of the text.......the text places 'in the image of God he created him' directly in parallel with 'male and female he created them.' What is to be the image of God is hinted at by the creation of human beings as male and female, a finger pointing to what is otherwise mysterious and unknown. Not that there is anything in God corresponding to 'male and female.' but human beings and they alone are provided a way into the mystery of God though this unique aspect of their nature.”[b] ~ Fr. A very insightful comment you found there Becky!

It strikes me that perhaps what is being alluded to here is the difference in men and women in the spiritual as well as physical realm. That is to say we should treasure how men and women think and process emotion differently as well as how they are better suited to different physical tasks.
