Even small ones can give good rainbows. I have been to Niagara Falls and found the silent way the water slides over the edge right on the Canadian Bank almost spooky.
By way of contrast I was lucky enough to visit High Force Waterfall in Teesdale, England on a day when the water was just right for it to be 'pumped' through the left hand constriction (as you look here) in rapid pulses that made an incredibly loud roar. As that gap widens the effect will cease.
