This reminds me of a Porky Pig cartoon when he was sitting for a lady and before she left for work she said "Use the book.". It was a book on child psychology.
Well, the kid was a Holy terror and Porky tried following the advice he read but did no good
Upon the return of the mother, he was worn out and the mother said, "didn't you USE the book?". The mother then demonstrated the proper use of the book by turning Jr over and used the book to spank him with!"

I like the one by Norman Rockwell painting with the mother with the kid over her knee and a book on child psychology book in one hand and a hairbrush in the other!
Lots of books on parenting! She's got the right idea!
