I Have Recurring Nightmares

I have a few recurring ones that happen maybe 1 or 2 times a year each. I think I mentioned in someone else's post two of them, but I had one of the others last night.

One is kneeling on the ground in front of some vaguely described villain, having been physically defeated after a struggle. Beaten, bruised, and out of breath, I just look up and stare at him as he raises a gun to my head. I can do nothing but stare, having accepted my fate. The farthest I get in the dream is to where I hear the click of him pulling the trigger and immediately wake up before the gunshot.

The second is being tied down on a large stump in the middle of the woods by some dark cult. They do a ritualistic dance around the fire and go to sacrifice me, plunging a knife into my chest as I wake up.

The third is less lethal, but I'm a photographer trying to capture an important moment. I go to take the photo, but for some reason, a mechanical failure is preventing me from pressing the shutter button, and I miss the entire thing. It's very stressful and anxiety-inducing, because I think I'm being paid for it, and it's all ruined.

The fourth, and the one I had last night, is where I'm on top of some metal structure high up off the ground. It's damaged, and for some reason, I'm wearing a heavy suit of armor. Sometimes, it's modern body armor, sometimes it's futuristic power armor. At some point, I get knocked back off the ledge and fall for a long while, desperately reaching up to grab the edge and stop, but I miss and keep falling. Eventually I land back-first on a horizontal metal pole and hear my own bones breaking before waking up.

I don't know if there's any meaning behind any of them, but dying horribly is not a great way to wake up.

Looks like you have a fear of a violent death... It's an expression of your insecurities, of your fears that it will all end, that all your efforts will be in vain...

@drymer The fear of losing control of my own fate, fear of leaving behind unfinished business, that kind of thing? I can believe that.

@FaeLuna Yes... Scientifically (?), dreams are expressions of either our fears or our hopes...

Yet my dreams are usually so boring and mundane, I don't get it... 😒
