I Hate War

Of course I do, everyone who hates seeing human beings suffering hates war.

But I cannot help noticing that generations who have lived war situations, and the scarcity it brings, appreciate the real value of things, do not take things for granted, or think they are entitled to so many rights just like that.

War is terrible but it is s good cure for narcissism.

What you say is true. The older generation is wiser and more prudent in their ways than we are. And rightly so. We see so much neglect and wastage these days because people generally think they can squander everything as long as they have money.

@novembermoon More prudent, yes. They realise that what we have may be easily gone. They have seen it happening, and know that it may happen again.

And another effect, seldom mentioned, of deprivation is an intense desire to provide better lives for their children, so that they will never have to suffer deprivation, or such loss. Which, of course, brings us to the present day.

I recently heard something to the effect that "peace is not the equilibrium state for society." It is artificially achieved by the threat of nuclear weapons ('mutually assured destruction') and diplomacy.

@SomeAreBoojums We think war is the absence of peace, but it is the other way round.

Absolutely true. My grandmother valued everything and never wasted anything. Of course I do not claim that she experienced war because my country is the lucky one.

@NenaRussa Personal. I am talking about thinking one has the right to assets beyond the basic ones, and to other people's time and attention simply because you exist.
