I Think Kind People Are Beautiful

I sometimes see men using the term "friendzone" in a negative way in their posts. While I understand the frustration they are expressing, I would like to assert that friendships between men and women can be very positive. The following quote confirms my own experience.

"It is a wonderful advantage to a man, in every pursuit or avocation, to secure an adviser in a sensible woman....A woman, if she be really your friend, will have a sensitive regard for your character, honor, repute. She will seldom counsel you to do a shabby thing; for a woman friend always desires to be proud of you." Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton

I agree.
I live with such a woman.
We are friends.
I created that so-called FriendZone.
It is an honest relationship with no expectations. It is composed of debate, tolerance, respect, love, and consideration. We are free to be ourselves without hindrance from the other. This has created a powerful bond between us. Sex cannot do this permanently between us. Whatever attracts two people together, is NEVER the REASON they will remain together.

I agree, there is something beneficial in having friends of the opposite sex. But there has to be respect, as in the quote, on both sides. I'm afraid that some men view a platonic relationship with a woman as impossible, even in holding an intelligent conversation with her. They have this need to drag any exchange down to gutter level. As I have sadly found on this site.

@Ramblingrose Yes, you will see that in one man's response to this story! 😆

But, there really are men who understand what the word "friend" means. I hope you have met those as well. 😀
@DrWatson I have, thankfully!

I think there has to be respect on both sides and once this and trust is established, which takes time to build, then a good friendship between a man and a woman can become beneficial and long-lasting.

@MissLemon Thank you for responding. I agree -- respect and trust take time to establish.

What a beautiful sentiment. I often think that my friends online are some of the best and most valuable people I have ever met. I still remember that one of them was slightly astonished that he could be friends with a woman!☺️

That being said, it must also be understood that there are a mob of men who are not really interested in being "just friends", and some of them wouldn't give a woman the time of day if they didn't think they could score.

So let me tell you...the above sort are a dime a dozen, while genuine friends, of any sex, are jewels beyond price.

My closest friendships have always been with male friends (not lovers) In truth...those friendships have been my most treasured.

Yes! I have always had more male friends that female. I still keep in touch with some of them. 🍀

@missbeez Possessiveness is sure to ruin a friendship. I'm sorry that happened to you.
