I Play The Clarinet
I love playing music but I have a problem. Growing up I never had that much musical exposure I never had music theory in middle school or High School and I learned at the clarinet wrong I am very good at playing clarinet so it's not wanting to since you need to relearn it what happened was I don't look at the staff and say oh that's a B flat for a G I say it's on the second line so the fingering is this for the clarinet. I hate that I actually then learn saxophone off bit haven't played it in about four years so I need to get more familiar with it again however when learning saxophone I learned the names which are the letters of the fingerings before anything else which is good. The one thing I am struggling with though is my efficiency is playing the clarinet I have had lots of problems playing faster and being accurate I don't know my key signatures the best but I do know them and scales and stuff are almost not there I caught a play a piece and there might be and one of notes and someone says they me that one of notes I'll be like it's G, E, F but maybe it's a G Major scale or something and I wouldn't know that cuz when I look at a key signature I know it may be C major or d flat or something and I may know how many sharps or flats are in the key signature but I don't know which sharps or flats are in the key signature cuz I don't know my scales which is a bad thing.
Also one of the most difficult things for me is I tend to lift my fingers a little high off of the clarinet making it hard for me to play faster and I've noticed I'm in a band the community band a pretty good concert band and they're playing harder and harder music every year trying to get the band to be more skilled adding in better musicians to the group along with the current musicians adding in harder music every year and I've noticed I've hit a wall where I practice and practice and practice a passage in a piece that is very difficult for me over and over again and I seem to not be able to end up playing it after two or three months I may get a lot better at it and be able to play it at a certain Tempo but not at the performance tempo and it is bugging me I always start very slowly play one note at a time very slowly until I can play the whole measure or the whole passage I play it with different rhythms so no matter how I see those notes in in that order but in any rhythm and we'll be able to play them. I feel it's frustrating to not be able to up my skill level very fast it does take time but for me it is taking at least 4 years and I've gotten almost nowhere.
I was in college for music but I felt music theory twice was getting nowhere with my piano class learning piano and my clarinet teacher did not see a big Improvement yet in my clarinet playing and I also failed music history
I would love to know if other people play clarinet or bass clarinet or contrabass clarinet or any clarinet I'd like to hear your stories about playing it your struggles your accomplishments anyting.
