I used to catch snakes and study them, but I still don't like finding them in my yard or (gasp) in my house. Unfortunately, this is Texas, and they are everywhere. I saw one in my back yard last week, but it eats bugs, so it is welcome to live among our bushes. I've had two in my house, and they were quickly evicted.

I used to set boards out in the field behind my house as a kid to attract snakes and I would go out and play with them and try to sneak them into the house. My Mother was not thrilled with this.
You would hate encountering a rat snake then because they are huge! And harmless, but you don't necessarily know that when you stumble upon one. I've had many snake encounters here at my house.😬
Mainly ok I think but perhaps not as you get towards the border with Queensland. Don't let it put you off. You'll be fine if you use common sense and heed warning signs
