Do you find overly-helpful retail associates annoying?

Like the ones that ask if you need help every 5 minutes. The ones telling you every shoe you try on " looks good on you" to convince you to buy it.

I Understand what customer service is, as I worked retail for many years, but we didn't have to be annoying...happy medium is all.

I hate shopping because of this. But when I truly need help there's never anyone around.

Speaking from experience, because their boss told them to. Everyone feels annoyed by overly helpful people, even overly helpful employees. Each boss comes with their own expectations and way of running their store, and being extra helpful is just what some bosses prefer for the best ratings and store inspections.

I figure as long as I stand there and look helpful the customer can decide themselves if they need it or not.

Yes, one large furniture store in Oklahoma City has a commercial where they say that they don’t have “Shopper Stalkers”...pretty good name for them. We bought furniture there last month and they have helpful sales associates who will stay with you if you want them to and if not they leave you to do your browsing until you do.
