How big of a fashion faux pas is VPL?

My ex boyfriend used to tell me he found it attractive whenever he saw me with vpl especially at the gym in leggings, however ive always believed it was seen to be a bad thing? I never purposefully go out knowing i have vpl in fact i own lots of seamless underwear and thongs which help prevent it, however if im out and i realise, i dont stress because some people are going to see what style of knickers im wearing.
Is it a big deal or no issue at all?
