I'm really trying to put some effort while dressing up

I can't seem to pull off too many looks. I am frankly very comfortable in jeans, a comfortable shirt, any foortwear (not heels) and just tie the hair in a bun.
But no! Everyone says I need to make an effort. Look at all the gorgeous girls your age. Why can't you be like them.
Frankly, sometimes you do feel a little.... insecure when you see how killer the girls turn out these days.
I was very comfortable in the school system that had uniforms, no makeup and a prescribed hairstyle. That's my scene.

It is important, more than anything, to be yourself. There are a lot of women out there working VERY hard to put on looks that are not natural to themselves. They spend a lot of time and money and effort to do so.

Sometimes all you have to do is visit the hairdresser and ask for a killer hairstyle that can come out of the shower and look good with no fuss.

Makeup can be a couple of swipes of blush, lip gloss, and a hint of eyeshadow.

A simple dress and heels can elevate your look in a heartbeat, and none of those things are uncomfortable. (Except maybe the heels...LOL!!!)

I wore plaid tunics and socks at home even after leaving school
Indulge in what you feel comfortable in. Not necessary it ought to be trendy too.

I get the feeling that you are interested in a new look.
In that case, you may try different yet simple & time saving hairstyles (diff buns with a classy hair-accessory to go with)

Just be yourself! Don’t let others dictate your clothing choices.

I personally feel like the ones who aren't wearing dramatic makeup and long weaves look the most confident. MY OPINION <-( for the trolls)
Be who you want to be. ☺
