I Am On My Own Spiritual Path

It's the individual's longing for identity which serves as the matrix for cultures - or at least helps explain why they (continue to) exist. Rather than incentivising our own private inquiries (as it really and ideally should), our spiritual incompleteness compels us towards easy, short-term answers instead. Culture serves the function of alleviating this incompleteness for us; it gives us a name, a country, an ideology and belief - ideas which are not original to who we are at all, yet we grow up believing otherwise. We're willing to die for the stories of ourselves, and we even fight for the right to do so. But all these are really just abstractions - human impositions; concepts which belong exclusively in the realms of human fantasy.
