I Like Fishing

My dad took me fishing today. It's one of the few things that we do just the two of us. Mom doesn't like anything about it! We went to a local pond owned by one of his friends with a cooler of drinks and sandwiches. The weather was perfect, sunny, 85 degrees, and calm water.

We are catch-and-release people for the most part, unless we catch enough that are big enough to clean. Then we will filet and fry them. Today wasn't an eating kind of day. We caught some nice sunfish, bluegill, and some small bass, but nothing worth keeping.

The dragonflies skirted the banks, and the bull frogs bellowed out occasionally. An airplane made passes over a nearby field spraying crops. The only other sounds were our jigs hitting the water and our excited yelps when we reeled in a fish.

I love these days with my dad, out in nature, not really talking ....and not really needing to.
