I Think Real Men Grow Beards

Your Fathers Mustache

Growing up I remember people saying my father had red hair. My father was many things tall,broad-shouldered,easy going but his hair was a melange of grey black. I guess the operative word was HAD red hair. It wasn't that I didn't believe it,my older brother has bright red hair, but there was no "empirical evidence" to back it up

But when I was about eighteen or so my Dad had to go into the hospital for a minor matter. Being an extremely active man, just sitting there was driving him up the wall.
He had done every puzzle in the Sunday paper including one I never understood,he had watched TV and read books. By the third day he had grown a beard, vivid bright red that might well have made Hagar the Horrible green with envy! It was hairy subversion and twas wonderful

Everybody thought it was great but as the week went on he shaved it too a handlebar mustache, the beard was gone! Still it was a marvel,we begged him to keep it. But it got itchy and went the way of the beard. I only wish I had taken a picture!

Oh my stars!!
You write really well.
What a FABULOUS memory.
I dig a handlebar mustache....I like people who can be original and rock their own style.
Red rocks!....that is a statement by the way....not a reference to a place in Colorado or anything.
Your dad sounds like my kinda man.
Thanks for sharing.

@Unsatisfiedstace: Red indeed rocks. But being of Irish heritage,we also rock the "paleface look",though I had freckles as a kid that kind of spilled over into each other making a light tan!
My Dad was a very funny man and once the teacher locked him in the cloakroom for some remark he made. Unfortunately she forgot he was there and my grandma had to send someone to spring him!
Thank you for your comment

@bookerdana: I also have Irish blood.
Good to get to know your father's mustache....

this was a good story. I enjoyed reading it... I hear that grown beards get itchy... I might know next time I decide to grow one.. ;)

Well I prefer not to get my facial hair caught in car doors and attacked by bees who mistake it for their hive!!!

have to go again... see you.

Take a poll - I may be wrong with this ...

But.... most females don't find a beard very attractive. Only if it is trimmed close to the skin. The rest look scrag and not very handsome. The beard can smell - not so good when you want to be intimate ....

Then again - I may be wrong ....

@SoFine: This was the closest group I could find for my story. You can wash a beard,no smell. But I think every man should unleash his inner cave man upon occassion
was the beard red? 😜
hehehe... is your beard red?
bookerdana · M
No,bit darker than my hair..which sometimes turns red in the sun!
@bookerdana: what? the beard or the hair? 😆

I love a man with a gorgeously wild beard. Very primal.

@ravenwind43: Thanks! this was a reminiscing kind of story, but that Thor like beard was awesome. Every man should get in touch with his inner wild beast side!
