I Like Tattoo Art

I love tattoo art, although I did not get my first one until I was 65, and got my fifth - and final - tattoo at age 66.

I am enclosing a photo of my fourth tattoo, a take-off on M.C. Escher's "Drawing Hands".

I got all five of my tattoos at Brite Idea Tattoo in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The owner, and one of two artists in residence, is Zera Anderson. Not only is Zera a fantastic tattoo artist - check out her online sites - she has a masters in fine art from the University of Michigan and paints and draws as well. She is also a genuinely warm, friendly, funny animal loving soul!

What made you wait so long to get them?

Nothing really, probably the same reason that I also didn't get my first colonoscopy until I was 65.

I had no problem with the colonoscopy - or with the tattoo - but I tend to procrastinate. I would tell myself that I need to get a colonoscopy - or a tattoo - and then wouldn't think about it again for six months or a year.

Having not gotten the tattoos until after I turned 65, however, I tell everyone that I waited until I was 65 so I wouldn't have to worry about what the tattoos would look like when I was old - since I am already old. My skin has already sagged as much as it is going to!
