I Still Live With My Parents

I still live with my parents and sometimes I feel ashamed. It has it positives and negatives. In the long run I'm saving money and I'm being taken care of (I don't have to buy groceries, pay the bills, etc., but I also feel lonely at times. I don't want to hang out with my parents. Usually I'm okay with hanging around by myself, but at times I feel lonely. Like how much better would it be if I had a friend or a buddy here to keep me company. It's bitter sweet. I could move out if I wanted to, I've got the funds to do so, but something is holding me back that I can't pinpoint. I don't know if I'm just comfortable here and being out on my own is a little freightening, or what. Does anyone else ever feel this way? Stuck and lost about what to do?

I still living at home and I'm 27. I know lame right? Times are still hard right now and I don't start my new part time job until next month and I still go to college part time. I live with my dad, older brother and cousin so we basically help my dad out.

I still live at home with my parents as I'm going to school and working part time and living on my own is not feasible economically at this time. I wish I could live by myself at times because my little sister is a pain in the butt I was getting into my things and my life. But I do love the security and the fact that some things are taken care of for me. I'm only 19 but I'll be off on my own soon I hope

@AndieBarrons9919: I am 19 as well and know that's it's not that abnormal to still live at home, but most of my friends live at their college, or in an apartment and I just think about how things would be if I were on my own, often. Yet I do nothing about it!

@basiclife98: yeah some of my friends still live at home too. I do go visit some of my friends who live in the dorm and wow that is fun it's also pretty crowded and a little disgusting.
I also live with my parents.

@Hahahahahaha: are you okay with it, or do you feel like I do about it? You want to get out but something is stopping you
No I love to be with my mon but not with my dad
He is selfish
He even sell us if he want money

@Hahahahahaha: I'm sorry you have to go through that!
No need to rush yourself because of some societal pressure to move out. That pressure is also largely to encourage people to spend money btw. And there is nothing to be ashamed of. In the US and probably very similar number elsewhere because of the economic crash of 2008 and the fallout from that large numbers of adults 35 and under still live at home.

Thanks for the insight! That makes me feel much better. I also have to take into consideration that most of my friends who do live at their colleges or on their owns have loans for days to help pay for their things. They don't realize at this time that they will be having to pay those back eventually. A lot of people I know just pull out loans to live off of and I am very glad I'm not one of those people. It's not free money lol, hut that's how they tend to use it! @PicturesOfABetterTomorrow:

I think I understand what you're saying about wishing at times you were living with friends instead, but I don't think living at home at your age is all that unusual any more.

Not that you shouldn't feel special ;)

@hlpflwthat: I get what you're saying! Definitely not too abnormal at my age, but at times I wish I were on my own with friends (if I had more), not sure what's holding me back.

Are you really 18-21? If so definitely don’t be ashamed. I’m 31 and still living with my parents.

I moved to Europe when I was 18. Best thing I ever did.
