I Am Attracted to Intelligent Women

New iPad

I’m on vacation and decided to finally go ahead and get that new iPad. I went to the closest Apple store to pick it up and had a really nice encounter. It’s a Saturday at the Apple store. It’s totally nuts, not a place I go to willingly, but hey, I wanted my new toy right away.

But I’m glad I did. The Apple rep there was pretty, friendly and helpful and we got to talking. She’s moving soon to my former state, she said so as she checked my ID. Talked about where she was going, assured her it was nice. I had her when I’d heard of her small women’s college alma mater. We crammed a lot into that pickup appointment.

She said the nicest thing to me, which still lingers in my mind days later, influencing me to write this up. She said “Sorry this is taking so long, I like talking to you. You’re intelligent.” I smiled. I truly was interested when she was talking about her dream of working for the Boston Symphony. It’s the kind of dream I understand and would love to see fulfilled. I’m nice. I listen. And she wasn’t using my ear to rail against to world, but instead to talk about how she was finding her place in it. Her optimism was refreshing.

I was struck by the urge to ask for her number as she wrote down the Apple 1-800 helpline on the card. I didn’t though. I’m no pick up artist. I just picked up the iPad.

As a former Apple employee I’m glad you had a wonderful experience. I loved the people I worked with and am still in touch with many of them. It’s a great culture and a wonderful company. I’m lucky I had the opportunity I did to spend a few years with Apple. I’ve been a customer for over 20 years.

@76starships For the most part, Apple is a good company, but I think it’s more about the person. Someone could have a good job with a good company and work with good people but still be miserable if they have a negative attitude.

@ChampagneOnIce I know many of these determined to be negative types. I work with quite a few.
