I Like to Be Barefoot

It's OK to allow your feet to touch the floor. Here is a recent experience.
I just had a routine hospital test that required sedation. I was put in a station in the prep room, given a bag with a gown and a pair of socks to change into. I put on the gown but passed on the socks. It was November and I walked in wearing flip flops and I was not about to wear socks to lie in a bed.
There was a delay due to computer issues and I was stuck in the prep room for over an hour. The IV I was given made me feel like I just chugged a half gallon of water. I called the nurse and told her I needed the restroom. She put the IV bag on a portable attachment and I began to get out of the bed. She glance down as my feet hit the floor. She said, "Let me get you a pair of gripper socks." I explained that I given them but did not wear them. She then said that I couldn't walk across the floor in my bare feet. I told her I was sorry but I had to go now and walked across the prep room down a hall into the bathroom. I scurried back to the bed and covered up because I did not want to get busted for not removing my toe rings (all jewelry was to be removed).
I just didn't see any alarm if my feet touched the floor to walk to the bathroom. I've walked on just about every surface barefoot and never had a problem.
1) The things with which you might come into contact in a hospital are more likely to be dangerous than stuff in the typical home.

2) Slipping is a possibility.

So gripping socks are great CYA & help prevent spread of some diseases, hurting yourself so as to prolong your stay/comolicate treatment, etc.

It isn't a cabal meant to make you have footwear.

I've had nurses on hospital wards moan at me for not wearing socks. I end up wearing slippers when I walk around the ward instead because socks annoy me too much.

I guess I pushed the issue by wearing neither. Whatever, I pulled it off.@Psychologykate

Agreed way preferable@Psychologykate
I think that the sock "rule" has two points.

1) Most importantly, it is a CYA move, which reduces their liability. You have people, many of whom are not well, others who are having meds, etc., and they do not have time to screen everyone for whether or not they might have a sudden dizziness, etc., when standing up. Thus, grippy socks.

2) Health department reg's. Thus, covered feet.

There’s nothing wrong with being barefoot or commando :)

There really something sensual about being barefoot. I was doing a little outdoor nude hiking and one of the things I loved the most was feeling the earth under my bare feet

A friend of mine was in hospital recently, routine nothing serious, but still had to wear socks.... she was less than happy!

Very nice. I'm becoming more and more of a strict barefooter.
