I Am Fascinated By Science, Religion, and Philosophy

I am old enough to remember the problems with the influx of migrants from non Anglo Saxon European countries into Australia. The arguments were along the lines of "they are taking our jobs", "they don't integrate", "they are too different from us", "they don't share our values". The first generation children of these groups did get into trouble, did run in gangs and often engaged in violent acts against the the "skips" as white Australians were known. I think it would be fair to say that the majority of those people are now respected and productive members of society.

Following the cessation of the Vietnam war, there was an influx of Vietnamese asylum seekers coming in by boat. Surprisingly, the Government at the time welcomed them with open arms and encouraged all Australians to do the same thing. But, as with the European migrants, they were subject to the same issues. Again, the majority of those asylum seekers are respected members of the community.

We are now going through a similar influx, but this time there seems to be a religious aspect involved as well. I don't believe that Australia is alone in this, as evidenced by news reports.

Why is it that complaints about this latest wave of migration has included a religious component? Is this a fair response?
