I Am Fascinated By Science, Religion, and Philosophy

Artificial intelligence, robots and life. Is it possible for robots to achieve a state that could be called life, including evolution and possibly religion.

I think that religion is basically just questioning the unanswerable. Pure logic in a computer will allow it to forego the need to know what is after life. Assuming that an true AI is created then we will possibly also discover the answer but we might not like it.

@Tastyfrzz Should not liking the answer be a reason to not ask it or more of a reason to do so?

Probably not religion. But certainly 'life', sentience, and evolution.

@Quizzical I suppose the difference is that we have the opportunity to avoid the blind alleys that slowed down human intellectual development. Alternatively, creating an artificial tabula rasa may be a very interesting experiment. Would it be possible to use such a system as an analogue for human development?

In terms of religion, there are some theories that it is hard-wired into the human brain. Is it, therefore, a function of a cognitive intelligence or a social construct?
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Bushranger It's not hard-wired into mine, so unless I am an alien I can't see it being hard-wired into anyone's.

Religion is a totally social construct.

@Quizzical I meant as a species, we need something to act as the alpha male of the group. In some cases that may be a strong leader, in others an all powerful God. I'm not saying that I agree completely with the idea, but it could be an interesting discussion point.

Ok, so this has gone well, not. New topic: Philosophy of AI as presented in science fiction. Asimov and Dick, how different are they to significantly different to Karol Capek's RUR and themselves?
