I Think Marijuana Should Be Legalized
There are so many reasons why marijuana should be legalized - as it was until 1939 - and no good reasons why it should be illegal - especially being listed as a class 1 narcotic.
All of the myriad reasons why it was made illegal - as well as all of the corporate and commercial interests that pushed for its being banned - are covered in full detail by a man who was a year ahead of me at the University of Kentucky law school.
The book is "The Last Free Man in Anerica" by Gatewood Galbraith. After graduating from law school, Gatewood ran for governor of Kentucky twice on the platform of legalizing pot. He argued that Kentucky farmers could easily switch from tobacco to marijuana. Plus, hemp was grown by Kentucky farmers during World War Ii to support the war effort.
Willie Nelson supported Gatewood's campaign and even performed a concert to raise funds and awareness. As you may have surmised, Gatewood did not win, though he did better than many expected.
