I Don't Fear Death

I don't fear death, myself but no matter how many I witness its still hard to experience. My uncle died today after struggling with cancer. He and I were close, In his last stages it was difficult to see him, he had changed so much he was unrecognisable. and his laboured breathes was heart breaking to hear. Watching his distraught wife trying to cope, words could not suffice for the pain she is feeling. Even a hug was futile to absorb her grief. I wanted to say so many things to him, but the words would not come forth. I wanted to hear his teasing jokes his wide smile and sparkle in his eyes but they remained closed and he was unresponsive. He was loved and will be missed by many, the person that everyone will remember as the life of the party as he danced and sang his favourite songs of Elvis... he was a huge fan.I will remember him as a good friend and a great Uncle...

I'm sorry for your loss. I went through something similar with an aunt last summer.

the labored breathing, the body closing down.

the crying was not for sadness, but relief. relief that she was no longer suffering and that we didn't have to watch her fading away.

death is an enemy and a friend at the same time in some cases.

So sad. My last remaining uncle died on Friday, at 94. I can't remember the last time I talked to him. At least 35 years ago. My family was never close. My father died 3 years ago shortly before his 96th birthday. I have an aunt who is 97. Their mother lived to be 96.
