So...serious question ...please keep scrolling if you are easily offended [I Dont Like Small Talk]

I wonder how I am or anyone for that matter can trust or believe anything written in the bible when it was written by the hands of man ...humans hearts are wicked and lie by it's very nature . How can anyone trust it ? It's not as if God himself wrote these words. I am not asking this to ruffle any feathers ,I am just looking for insight .Just trying to make sense of things that make no sense to me.

The Bible was written by people who didn't even live in Jesus's era. There is a brilliant channel on YouTube that digs into abrahamic religions from the perspective of searching for the truth. The name is "blogging theology" and it has really helped clear a lot of my confusions.
Spoiler: the Bible is inaccurate.

@assemblingaknob Bwahahahahaha!!!!! You think a video proves something. We have parts of scrolls that contain Bible passages that were written 300 years before Jesus was born.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 um... It's not "a video". It's a series of interviews with professors of theology and excerpts from theological scholarships that prove so.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@assemblingaknob Which is a video. Do try to keep up. The Bible is historically accurate and has been shown to be over and over and over again. Did you know that there were professors that believed the world was flat? You need to do some more research on the Bible and history.

@hippyjoe1955 you're very emotionally driven. My comment was not meant to offend anyone.
Anyway, if bible was historically accurate it wouldn't have dozens of versions. And if intellectual discussions to you are just "a video", bible is just "a book". And so is Harry Potter.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@assemblingaknob I am not responding emotionally at all. I am laughing at your misinformation based on some video featuring a bunch of so called experts. Your 'experts' have shown their ignorance and your ignorance of the matter made you susceptible to their misinformation. Just one further note. Did you know that if we lost every copy of the bible in the last 1000 years we could reconstruct virtually all of it from parts of the New Testament dated prior to 120 AD? We would only be missing the book of James. There is no other book from antiquity that has a more impressive chain of custody than the Bible.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 why would you be missing book of James?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@assemblingaknob The earliest copy we have of the book of James is closer to 250 AD. The other books are not complete copies but enough of them are different that the entire New Testament can be reconstructed from extant documents dated earlier than 120 AD. Amazing.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 All of what you said is far from what one can call "preserved". It is not amazing. "not complete copie", "enough of them", etc....does not promise a 100% certainty of authenticity.
My comment is not meant to offend your faith. I'd say even if you disagree, watch some excerpts and interviews by that guy. Just so you can see the things about the bible that confuse people like myself.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@assemblingaknob Let me ask you a question. Ever heard of the Iliad? How close to the original copy do you think our oldest copy is?
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 we don't compare God's perfection to mortal creations. How can we then compare the book of God to something humans created? Is God not capable of preserving His own holy book? Why would you compare the preservation of Bible to the Iliad?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@assemblingaknob Nice attempt to side step. The oldest copy we have of the Iliad is 600 years younger than the original. There are also parts and fragments that predate the complete copy. The same is true of the New Testament. We have parts of it that can be used to confirm that what we have is accurate. That aside for a moment. How long do you think it would take before people started worshipping the original texts instead of God? If you go to an ancient church you will find they worship relics so the idea that the original texts have disappeared is a very good thing.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 I'm not side stepping. It was a genuine question. As I said before, I have confusions regarding the religion. But you have toxic presumptions about people's intentions. Also you enjoy mockingly laughing at people with a different opinion than yours. Are those the teachings of Jesus?
Iliad and the Bible are like comparing apples with oranges. Being happy that the Bible is somewhat better preserved does not make it 100% preserved. And what's not 100% preserved cannot be 100% trusted. I'll leave it at that.
Thank you for your time.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@assemblingaknob When you come out and say that the Bible is made up and not accurate what exactly should anyone think? You see I am a student of the Bible. I know its history and historicity. I know who wrote it and when and I know how it was transmitted from generation to generation. I know the 'errors' in it and how they are not errors at all. If you don't understand it then try asking some questions. BTW the Bible is not the basis of the Christian faith.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 I apologize that I came across that way.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@assemblingaknob Apology gladly accepted. I much prefer friendly discussion to anger and insults.
