I Am Trying to Lose Weight

Hey guys. I just want some advice from people who previously lost weight. I want to do it for myself. Lately, I've gained weight and people have pointed it out. I don't really look great in photos like i used to. I was wondering what is a great way to start?
there are a million diets,, MOST work, if you stay with them,, but that is the hard part.

better still? lets use Physics

if you BURN more heat units ( calories) than you INGEST
you WILL lose weight

low cal diets, also signals your body that it might be starving so it slows your metabolism, AND makes you body save all the fat it can

Instead, drop many carbohydrates,, starched and sugars,, and get on a bike or a treadmill or lots of 4 mile walks... speed up your metabolism and as long as INTAKE is lower than OUTPUT
You will succeed

oh i am sure you will get lots of KETO diet fans,, but it is not good for your liver, it works, but at a cost

YOu can do this!

@SatyrService I lost weight this way and you put it better than I could have.
Counting calories to make sure my input was low enough is what worked for me. I used an app on my phone to keep track.

Try to gradually cut out what made you fat in the first place. Get your diet locked down before you commit to exercising, because you really can't outrun a bad diet.

increase healthy protein, lower your carbs (but don't eliminate), lots of water,
keep your portions small, cut out junk food, soft drinks etc. and move more

Do martial arts! :-) It is fun, good exercise, and you learn valuable skills (how to defend yourself)! I know a guy who lost almost 100 pounds just by cutting down on how much he ate a little bit and doing martial arts! :-)
@KarateAaron that is great advice!!!

Lots of good advice here. I am now over half way in my weight loss.
If you cut back on the carbs - I was a massive potato, pasta fan!!- and find a way of eating less that works for you it will go well.
We eat basically a veg and protein diet. I drink more water and I have a high fibre cereal to start the day.
I snack if hungry - but only have a couple of nuts or so and have a piece of fruit or low fat yoghurt for a treat.
I have found that I can stick to this. If an odd occasion arises that makes me want to join in I do. One day won’t kill me - it’s being deprived all the time that makes you give up.
Good luck! The real bonus for me is how much better I feel! Haven’t felt this well in ages! It’s all to play for. Go for it!!!

Obviously watch what you eat, eat in moderation and more frequent to keep the metabolism up. Cardio is good, but to really lose weight you need to do weight training as well.

A lot of people I know did the one meal a day diet. They just don't eat until the afternoon.

@Fernie Some of the healthiest people I know follow this plan. We don't need to eat nearly as much as we do. People eat in excess. That's the privilege of a first world county, but don't think it's needed.

@Reject You do NOT know what you're talking about. Have you struggled with weight your whole life? Probably not ...are you a doctor? Probably not. Are you a Woman with many more fat cells than males? No. The human body needs fuel. That does not mean over eating. Small meals a few times a day gives the digestive system time to process the food into fuel. Just because you know a couple of people who CLAIM they eat once a day does not make it healthy. Get some facts and experience before you spew this stuff

@Fernie Okay.

Eliminate or cut down on processed food and sugar.
Exercise regularly. HIIT is an efficient way to do that.
jenmil · 22-25, F
Exercise more. Pm me. I gain in the winter monthes too
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Interment fasting, don't know if it is good for you but it works.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating.

It doesn’t specify which foods you should eat but rather when you should eat them.

In this respect, it’s not a diet in the conventional sense but more accurately described as an eating pattern.

Common intermittent fasting methods involve daily 16-hour fasts or fasting for 24 hours, twice per week.
@Subsumedpat thank you for explaining. I'll consider it.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@CuddleClose I found it is good for getting to your target weight then you have to go back to just eating less to maintain it
Fernie · F
how much extra weight are you talking about?
@Fernie I'm currently at 172 pounds. I'm hoping to drop 40.
Fernie · F
@CuddleClose At your age you can drop that like a hot potato. Don't deprive yourself of things...that is when we fail. I have learned that moderation is the key. You'll never feel deprived that way. Eat what you want in moderation. NO STRICT DIETS!! Believe me
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@Fernie When you're fat, everyone criticizes everything you eat and tells you what you should and shouldn't eat. Total strangers have hassled me for eating or even just purchasing a certain food. A friend of mine once ran into my apartment while I was eating dinner--broiled salmon plus steamed broccoli and carrots--screaming, "Look at you! Now I know why you are fat! You eat CARROTS!!!" This is a classic example; people who are slim give us fat folks an incredibly hard time criticizing EVERYTHING we eat. That is the main reason a very strict diet works better; any indulgences will be noted and you will be scolded loudly about them.
Tukudo · 41-45, M
Eat only when you are hungry! Don't dump anything unhealthy for your body. Do physical exercise regularly!
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
People who point out your flaws are trying to make you feel less worthy, especially about weight.
