I Like Funny Stories
There’s absolutely no doubt that Aussies are the master of the understatement and my father has to be right up there.
When I was a kid we lived in the middle of nowhere in far northern Queensland, it was a military posting. One afternoon I recall my mum and I pulling up out the front of our house to find my dad sitting on the front porch drinking a beer. It was unusual to see him drinking this early in the day. As we were approaching the house my mum said “I didn’t think you were home because I didn’t see your truck” My dad casually said “I parked it in the shade” which was a strange thing to say give the this time of the day the house and surrounding area was always shaded.
My mum went inside to get a glass of water and then joined my dad on the porch. After a minute or so she noticed that a very large tree has fallen over across from the house on the bank of the estuary were my dad launches the boat.
As she was staring at the huge pile of broken limbs and observing the mess it had made of the surrounding area, she spotted my dads truck in amongst the debris. It was completely flattened under the trunk of the tree.
My mum said “ [b][i]oh my god[/i] were you in it at the time” My dad replied “ Yup, anyway no time for relaxing, there’s some firewood in the back of the truck that needs cutting up”
With that he through down the last of his beer and got the big chainsaw from the shed. As he strolled past the house my mum said “be careful won’t you” As he strolled away he casually wave the chainsaw in the air and said “always”
I don’t think there’s anything on this planet that phases my dad, lol.
