I Had a Creepy Experience

Back in about 1973 I went to a wedding. I didn't actually know the bride or groom. They were the young cousins of a family my mother was friends with, and these friends were hosting the wedding on their spacious nicely landscaped property.

As we arrived, my mother spotted a young couple she knew, the nephew of a close friend of hers and his wife.

The husband was leading a tiny toddler while his pretty blond wife held a small baby. It was a beautiful sunny day as they walked across the green lawn toward us.

My mother greeted them and introduced me to them. We nodded and smiled at each other. They slowly walked on.

My mother commented that they were a "lovely young couple."

I had long since been trained never to disagree with any of my mother's pronouncements. If I did, she would usually throw a major out of control temper tantrum. Or, even worse, just give me a look to let me know she would seek revenge on me in some awful way later. But that day something grabbed me and words came popping out of my mouth with a deep certainty before I could stop them.

I looked at the pretty young woman carrying her child and said, "She looks like she would do anything anyone told her."

My mother was surprised, annoyed, but not really angry. She frowned at me, asking, "What are you talking about? Why are you saying that?"

I couldn't answer, so I just shrugged. I think my mother could see I was as surprised by my words as she was. My mother muttered a few more annoyed words, then turned and walked abruptly into the crowd leaving me to continue to stare after the young mother as she walked away.

Five years later, this woman, who was a nurse, administered fatal doses of cyanide poison to both of her children...plus well over 200 other children and babies at Jonestown, Guyana. Jim Jones told her to do it. Her husband was there to try and get her and his children to return with him to the US. He did not survive.

@Quimliqer Really reinforces the adage "If one doesn't stand for something, they'll fall for anything"...

@Quimliqer Yes, that was certainly true for her and many others. But not for those children. I really feel bad for the kids born there and the kids and teens whose parents brought them there.

@greenmountaingal They were the innocents...

The human mind is so vulnerable 😟

@bravo55 How true that is.

You are a good judge of character.

@DallasCowboysFan Thank you. It wasn't conscious, though, just a flash of intuition. But, yes, I was certainly right.
