I Will Take As Many Words As I Want To Write This Story

Celebration

[c=#7700B2]Fungirl recently put up a musical challenge for all to post to. The theme of that was 'Celebration" and while I would post there I have a bit to say about this so it goes here where I can be my own esoteric and eclectic self!

The link to that post is at the bottom.

The one thing I am NOT doing is posting the 70's disco song of "Celebration" which I know 20 responders WILL POST. I may not even put up the earlier Three Dog Night song that deals with the same issue.

I see life as a celebration but then I also see celebration in death and remembrance of another and I'm not so sure that way of thinking and looking at celebration is what the post was after.

Consider Paul Robeson's excellent baritone version of "Joe Hill" . Joe was an immigrant who came to this country at the turn of the century and became an early union organizer. Now that was something that was NOT popular and the government considered these leftists and extremists and as a threat. He was falsely accused of a murder in Utah and was sentenced and had to die. Had to as that would silence Joe, who had written many organizing songs that were published by The Wobblies, the IWW (International Workers of the World) But with no Joe the songs and his spirit die. Right?

Wrong!

He never died. Joe is alive and well.[/c]

[c=#7700B2]Is that not a celebration of a life well lived and a legacy that still lives on many years after Joe death and Paul's excellent recording of it? I believe it is every bit the celebration Neil Sedaka's homage to a young woman is...

[c=#7700B2]Now before we brush off cheeky faced Neil as a has been and irrelevant bear in mind that from 1959 to 1962 Neil sold 25 million records. NO ONE IN THE RECORDING INDUSTRY MATCHED THAT IN THE SAME TIME PERIOD! None. Not Elvis, Chuck Berry, Ricky Nelson, Dion, Frank Sinatra....ah...wait a minute

OK that was actually two minutes but I'm not counting. Like many of you this girl does not function without her coffee as coffee IS the FUEL of life. It's as essential as air. Ok--air may be higher in importance but you get the idea.

And stop laughing.... OH. You're laughing WITH me? That's....not consoling...

And who better than Frank Sinatra to offer a humorous celebration to that necessity?[/c]

[c=#7700B2]Frank would do this again later in his career but in never matched the humour this had.

And then there is Summer. What a glorious season! Summer is love and life. Summer is a love affair and warming of the not just the body but the soul as well. Summer is girls in bikini's with fine tan bodies and shirtless men smelling of musk and sweat and all to happy to take her in his arms. Sumner is freedom and amusement parks and days that never end. Summer is Hot Dogs, levee's, waterfalls, beer....

Wait a minute!!!! OK--who wrote this script??? Get them fired NOW! Wha---??

OK.. Nat King Cole wrote it? Well Pardon moi then. OK. Proceed..[/c]

[c=#7700B2]Sumner is about picnics as well?? Ok who packed the damn picnic and did NOT invite me? This was to be a well intentioned post but I am slowly getting stoked! (and I have no idea WHAT that means! BUT I AM!)

This was one of Nat's last LP for Capital as two years later, in 1965 Nat would die. It's also one of his best and while the entire LP is a celebration of love and life Nat also understood the importance of melancholy and or sweet remembrance's of a love and a love lost.

Here he sings a Hoagy Carmichael song that was never performed better before OR after his version as Nat OWNS this song! It's a celebration of a dear memory and a time when the world was new and all seemed kinder and love was exciting.[/c]

[c=#7700B2]I would be remiss to get to end of this post and not recognize Anniversaries as not being a form of celebration as well. While they are now bittersweet to me that is not what I'm after and not what The Five Satins were after either.

(One may remember the Five Satins best for their 1954 hit "In The Still of The Night". Fred Parris was the lead in that and led the group for some time. By the time this came out Fred had parted ways.)[/c]

[c=#7700B2]And so, it is time to end this as, let's face it, many of you I lost LONG ago in this post. To those that stayed-and listened, thank you. You are invited.

To a party of course! Really? What did you think I was talking about??? A rave??

From the memory of Joe Hill to the memory of special lost love and certain star at night to the delicious taste of coffee I think I have covered most of what needed said.

Ok-party time..

I need a Coke in a glass bottle! [/c]

You didn't lose me. I made it all the way to the afterparty. Stardust is one of the best songs ever in my opinion btw. And Neil Sedaka was one of my moms favorites. :)
@Fungirlmmm 😊 This was a lot of fun to DO! I loved mixing humour with facts and seriousness to it. While I had COFFEE, no less.

Thanks for the great theme that got my mind thinking this way. IF it was your b-day I hope it was all you wished it TO BE...and MORE!

The after party was rather tongue in cheek as the style of music was so estranged from what was offered before it! Glad you made it to the end.
