I Had a Good Day

[big]Plague Diary[/big]

36 Lazy Friday 22 May 2020

A dull morning. The weather boringly the same, only worse. The clouds darker. Lower. More threatening.

We get up without much enthusiasm for the day. Lockdown is bad enough, but we understand and accept its necessity. We know we are more fortunate then many. A nice place to live. No immediate financial worries. A purpose to what we do, insofar as our studies have an objective beyond qualifications.

And we have one another.

But there is still a tedium to all this, and it is frustrating to have our attempts to relieve it and to lighten the mood thwarted by weather.

We go through our morning routines. Showering. Dressing. Breakfasting. We drink coffee. We make more coffee to take to our studies.

My morning on line lecture is cancelled. I later find out that Oksana's was also. I read and do some research. Make some notes.

I have decided that Sunday's Spanish feast should consist mainly of tapas dishes, with a chicken and prawn paella as a centrepiece.

Because I will have prawns, I will fry some in chilli, garlic and lemon. I will make a chorizo and chickpea salad, patatas bravas, sauted mushrooms, Serrano ham, mixed olives. I might even make a small tortilla. It seems like a crazy amount of work for just the two of us.

But this is our entertainment for now. The planning, the provisioning and the preparation are all part of it.

Just after midday, we break for our exercise session. We work out for just over an hour, to make up a little for missing yesterday. By the end, there is nothing for it but to abandon our sweat soaked clothes and get under a hot shower.

And, of course, it is Friday, and the weekend has officially started. So we decide to skip lunch, catch up on some personal time.

We are woken in the late afternoon by flashes of lightning and crashes of thunder. At last, the storm. But it does not last long enough to clear the air.

We get up again. Dress for a relaxed evening in. Eat some fruit and yogurt, then succumb to temptation and order a pizza.

I put on a YouTube recording of the Modern Jazz Quartet.

I open a bottle of Chianti and we drink a glass while we wait. We then drink another glass while we eat. We finish the bottle while we digest.

It is a chilled evening.

Then it is time to shower, yet again. And make our way back to bed.

Thanks for another update Yulia. I love that you consider ordering pizza to be succumbing to temptation. That's exactly what it is, isn't it?

When I was living alone back in Washington, I succumbed typically twice a week. I would literally keep track to ensure it never became three!

@KiwiBird @Yulianna Oh! So did I, many times... That's why I began tracking it. My goal was then to order pizza no more than twice in any week.

@sarabee1995 in a week or in a 7 day period?
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Yulianna To me, a week always starts on Monday and ends with the weekend. So the challenge was always trying to get through Monday-Friday without using up my allotment! And I can't say I never "borrowed" from the coming week's allotment either. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@sarabee1995 🤗 i no longer know quite what a week is, as weekend begins Thursday night and ends Monday night... 😄

@Yulianna That's quite a generous definition of the weekend!!
