What if your interviewers digging your life in social media?

Do you shut down your social media? (If you don't want to be cancelled).

Do you think it is right for them to decline you just because your comments or posts in social media?

Sometimes, I fear I might get cancelled in real life because of my social media activities.

No, but it's a very real fact and they even have programs that sift through your anwers and can do a psycological assesment. i've been googling weird questions since i was twelve there's no way i get labeled as normal.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@Lostpoet How? Via your email?
Lostpoet · M
@assemblingaknob search engines

i've never told anyone about this account but they always seem to know it.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
Yes they can. You should have a separate account for work colleagues and a separate one for friends and family. And just don't use twitter with your own name. Your employers should not know your personal opinions on politics, religion, and society.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@Lostpoet why would anyone use the same email for personal and work purposes? 😶

@assemblingaknob Are you insinuating that I'm some sort of idiot?🤨
iamelijah · 26-30, M
@assemblingaknob I thought it would be much easier for me to open the work/task because I use the email as my primary email.

PS: Don't worry I already made one for work (even I am not officially working at the moment).

Like it or not, if you use your real name on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and make your account public, prospective employers will scan your posts. Best to make them only available to friends and family while you are job searching if you think there may be questionable content on your posts...

My interviewer will find only pictures I have taken of my cat and other various "boring" things.
(I can't be cancelled because that's not how being cancelled works.)

That’s why I had friend only settings to view my stuff. I ended up disabling accounts bc I had coworkers trying to pry into my private life and when I didn’t accept their connect/friend request they took it very personally.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@DecafD ugghh yes I know that kind. I'm on fb with a fake name now so I can focus on educational groups instead of getting texts from friends and coworkers about why I haven't liked their latest picture. 😑

There are different types of comments and posts.
Obviously I wouldn't support dismissing a prospective employee because they made a post about a religious event/holiday but if they make a post about how "hitler had the right idea" then yeah...
Same goes for comments, If someone makes a comment about how the food was horrible at the new mexican restaurant last night and the owners should give up that's totally cool. But if you say they should get deported then that's just messed up.

Bottom line....don't be a dick and you should be fine.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Personally i think it's disgusting they're allowed to do that.
After all, you can't do the same for them can you ?

For some companies, this is part of a background check
smiler2012 · 56-60
@SW-User is not an invasion of privacy 🤫

@smiler2012 one could argue that it is but there are employers that do monitor it. Such as teachers.
smiler2012 · 56-60
@SW-User teachers you can understand they might make deep checks as obviously you do not want anyone teaching kids with a criminal conviction involving harming kids
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I don’t think they have a right to do that but they are trying to protect the reputation of their own workplace most likely. And some probably just to spy on their employees. There was an incident at the store where I worked where employees on Facebook were spreading false rumors on FB about two of the workers in their dept., who were married and from another country. It got reported and the employees were told to remove the posts.
I avoid posting anything work related on social media
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@ilovefood] i am not being funny here but do you not think this rather paranoia . no future employer has the right to do that . what you do and what social media site you visit outside work has nothing to do with them
LucyFuhr · 56-60, F
Right or wrong, "social media footprint" is taken into consideration now.

Conduct yourself accordingly and if you still feel the need to post something controversial, do it anonymously.
Tukudo · 41-45, M
No! That's not true! Don't be scared. Be strong and avoid those Media. Never share any of your personal data.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
That’s why you should never use your real name in social media because it will come back to bite you.
shutting it down will just make them think you're hiding stuff.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
I only have this.
Lostpoet · M
@MrBrownstone i think they have access to all your different user names and it's illegal to create a fake email with false personal information.
