How long have you been a mechanic for?
XReaganX · 26-30, F
@justanothername I'm in mechanics but I'm not a certified mechanic. That company would've helped me get there though, as the initial recruiter said herself. But I've been in this field for a little over 2 years now.

@XReaganX How many mechanics jobs are available where you are?

I’d suggest backing yourself and getting yourself a lawyer. How long would you want to stay with the company after obtaining your apprenticeship certification?

@justanothername At the level I'm at, there's hardly any that offer full service work. That company offers to train you to do so much more than preventive maintenance. And I was really looking to become a lifer so I can grow and advance to something greater within. I've really wanted to work for them for a while now.
Same thing with economics. Extremely discriminatory fields. You have to work harder than most of your peers to continually prove your worth. Continue working hard is all I can say. It can be discouraging but one person has to believe in making the change by looking past gender and give us the opportunities we deserve as much as our colleagues ,if not more .

Get yourself a lawyer. Companies are not allowed to discriminate based on race or gender.

That’s a lawsuit

Ugh I wanted to go into mechanics but was told its a man's job. So I went into teaching and it's pretty much the same thing there, men are always preferred in teaching too! It's still a man's world! X

Keep fighting ✨ they can’t hold you back forever! You deserve these opportunities as much as they do. And when you get in you can help other women in too, and make the positive change that these men don’t know they need

@yeronlyman And im sure you'd be able to get that information in my shoes. Right. Meantime, when someone looks at you in the face and tells you your experience in your field doesn't amount to much don't think anything of it, especially when they hire people who know less than you do. ✌
