I Want to Be Understood By Just One Person

It seems truly impossible at times to find (face-to-face) and all I do is look elsewhere. Stories are heard of it, yes, but always just a dream for me. I need to believe in myself and that is very difficult for me to do.

You will get it. Only reading your words, I see that you are awared of the change you have to do.
I would like to give you the formula. I'm always looking for article to rise self-esteem and I didn't find the secret. I think it's something to change little by little. Taking personal little risks and feel proud of yourself when you do it. Also, embrace your lack of confidence as something that belongs to you as a way to stop yourself from doing madness things but that you have to go beyong your comfort zone. I mean, don't see it like an enemy.
Learn who is your real self without these fears, little by little and you will feel prouder each day.

I hope it makes sense. I'm also dealing with the same. A blind driving another blind. :-)
