Amid the row over Ambassador Darroch's alleged remarks with regard to the Trump White House, Downing Street has come out in defence of it's man in Washington.

It's a bit embarrassing to have it leaked, but most of what was said is very similar to what White House staff and former staff have themselves contested.

I'd be very curious to know who stands to benefit from the leak, especially given that within a week or two, Darroch could have been legitimately replaced as an act of a new government.

From my point of view the British people benefit hugely from the knowledge that our despite our messed up government the one thing they're NOT willing to do is suppress the richly deserved criticism of a man like Trump. @jomsim

@ThePerfectUsername I have to admit, I was glad that behind the diplomacy there is still room for private truth-telling.

Foreign governments have every right to an honest appraisal of Trump. And this one was spot on. Knowing that Trump responds to flattery is important to being able to deal with him. Enemies of the US know this and have been using it to their great advantage.
