I Have Random Thoughts Of Randomness

Second day of working from home. First full day without Cooper.

Working at home has it's challenges — my computer is 8 years old, for example. An unexpected benefit, if you can call it that, is that I was home when Cooper suddenly had some sort of neurological issue and the wife didn't have to deal with that by herself.

It doesn't really surprise me, but it kind of does, that I really miss Cooper. I'm in my home office, sitting in gym shorts and bare feet, and I keep expecting to feel something warm and furry rub up against me under the table.

The wife has taken all this far better than I thought she would. Even so, I'm glad I'm home to be with her, even if I am stuck mostly in the office.

It's a bad time. A lot of people are suffering. A lot of people are going to get sick and die. Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do about that, and it's kind of sad that one small element of comfort available to the wife and me is now gone.

Anyway, breaks over. Back to work.

@DunningKruger of course..it'd be strange if you didn't actually..
i had a couple of friends when they lost their doggy they took another within a week. The wife couldn't cope with his absence or with the habit of taking him for walks..now they're very happy plus they saved a stray one.

@elafina We have no plans to get another pet, possibly ever again. Of course, we said that when our last cat died, and a few months later, there was Cooper, tearing up the carpets in the corners.

@DunningKruger yes you never know, you cannot really plan it i think. maybe wait for the situation with the virus to settle and after you may think more clearly. but again, that timing..i'm sorry

Got a call from the vet this morning. They had already managed to cremate Cooper's remains and wanted to know if we'd like to pick them up.

The wife was happy about this because just having the box of Cooper's ashes in the house made her feel better. I don't know why, but it just did.

The vet also made a card for us with Cooper's paw print on it, and gave us a card with a flower-seed-impregnated patch that we can plant in the yard to help remember her.

It's been a hard week for a lot of reasons. I'm glad it's Friday.
