With the aim of saving lives by promoting hygiene, ’Soap for Hope’ was officially launched in 2013. Since then, the project has recovered over 750 tonnes of soap generated by nearly 250 hotels, produced 6,2 million reconstituted soap bars and benefited over 400,000 people in local communities across 22 countries.
Since being introduced in Viet Nam in August 2015, the project has distributed thousands of soap bars to poor children and communities in many disadvantaged areas, from the northern mountainous provinces of Ha Giang, Yen Bai and Quang Ninh to Ho Chi Minh City.
The idea for Soap for Hope came to Stefan Phang, director for Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility of Sealed Air Corporation, when he was looking at the amount of waste that a five-star hotel generates.
“A typical 400-room hotel generates 3.5 tonnes of solid soap waste per annum," says Phang who has worked with many hotels in the world.

Lol no... ummm.... well... not usually!

But I was in this hotel once that had this beautiful seashell shaped soap and it might have fallen into my bag!

Yes.. and so much more. But I tend to leave my dignity behind, lost somewhere in the wadded heap of soiled towels on the bathroom floor.

No.

What people take and leave behind at hotels makes for interesting stories :)

Yes, those tiny bottles are very handy on vacation and hotel rooms are very expensive, so I get the most out of my stay without taking anything in not supposed to. I would not take bath robes for example.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
One reason why hotel rooms are so expensive is the add-on hotel room tax. It's like the city fathers figured a way to fleece the tourists .... in the high teens in some areas. 17% in Houston 18% in NYC.

NO, never taken the towels or bath robes either.
katielass · F
True, but I have known people to take them. Kind of low, don't you think.
@Katielass: yes. it is stealing.

[c=#BF0080]No, I wouldn't go there without bringing my own soap, shampoo and conditioner [/c]
Doesn't everyone???

If they took home the TP that would be extreme tho 😄😄
Phildad · M
Might do - always save the empty bottles handy for the gym.
yes. it is paid for and if it's already opened they throw it away.
All we get here is cheap soap. You can have it.
