What were some misunderstandings of certain words or phrases you had as a kid?

I thought “pay per view television” was “paper view”, and “...for which it stands...” in the pledge of allegiance was “for witch’s stand...”

I was a dumb kid.

They said milk was good for your teeth, so i used milk as mouthwash


I thought sex was illegal because why else would my parents freak out & cover my eyes during the dirty scenes of a movie?

I thought "crooked" was pronounced "cricket"

I thought a sandwich was "sandwitch" and was a witch that hid in sand.
Writing helps to alleviate certain misunderstandings. Things like that is why oral history can never fully be trusted.
