@TopOfTheWorld Yes, in high school. I knew a few more who were only out to friends (I hung out with the art nerds, who were a pretty accepting bunch), but they were the only two who didn't hide it. This was the late 80s, so it was probably a bit more open by then, but the abuse they got was disgusting.

@RodneyTrotter I never went anywhere without my eyeliner pencil in those days. The girls were fairly evenly split, they loved it or hated it , there was no middle ground.

@RodneyTrotter I didn't when I first heard it but I can remember where I was, what I was doing. I heard it on FM radio through my dad's 70s hifi. It was a valve set and you can guess it sounded beautiful. I also remember watching TOTP with my dad and they Introduced Boy George of Culture Club. I remember my dad saying WTF is that! How times have changed.
