I Blah Blah Blah

Mental illness can make self care extremely difficult. I’m so excited that I’ve finally made a habit this summer out of taking the time to follow through with my hair care and skin care routines every day. It’s all finally showing improvement and it has been doing wonders for my psyche. Now I just need to work on getting more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep every night 🤔

I understand what you are going through. About 4 years ago, I had a psychotic break due to improper medical treatment for an antibiotic resistant UTI. It was awful. As I was recovering, after 2 hospital stays, I was illegally evicted from my apartment home of 28 years and the stress of going to court to fight it, plus the stress of having to move alone to a new town, caused me to relapse and start my recovery all over again living among strangers. I made a lot of progress over the next 2 years but then had a setback, and 2 days in the hospital, 4 months ago. It's been 2 steps forward, one step back. Now I am still learning to do everything all over again; shopping, shampooing my hair, my laundry, etc. Self-care has been the hardest for me. Recently I was very proud of myself for re-learning good dental habits and even improving them by buying and learning to use a water flosser.

I congratulate you on your progress. I admit I have all but completely given up on skin care and diet. You have inspired me.

Keep it up, and every step you take will empower you to continue to make your life better for you and for those around you.

You're so right. It's so easy to end up neglecting yourself and it only adds to the overall feeling of decay. When energy permits it's very rewarding to clean yourself up an take care of yourself a little.

Self care lets others see the natural beauty that is already there. Congratulations on your smart choices.
