At a mass level it is superficial and even selfish, which turns the whole thing into a massive cringe carnival of irony.
If you zoom in though there are some genuinely good folks. It's a subjective experience.

In the US I just see anger.
@Iwillwait Yeah, it seems like a lot of people put their mothers and fathers in homes and forget about them. I've seen it when I worked as a CNA. It's sad because these people always seem so sweet and caring themselves. I used to see God in their eyes and it was hard not to cry when I held their hands.
@Iwillwait In answer to your question, I would simply try to behave in a way that might show them the grace of God. People would much rather see a sermon than hear one. I am a wretched sinner by nature, and it's only by the grace of God that I can do anything right.

(in my opinion) The "Altruistic nature," at it's very core is derived from a place of sincerity and compassion.
