I Got Called For Jury Duty

GETTING OUT OF JURY DUTY

A jury summons, what joy it brings!
What an honor to serve, my soul has wings!
For serving on a jury is a citizen's glory--
Now I'm done lying so I'll tell my story:

I wore my favorite tee shirt as they checked me off a list
It read:

UFOs ARE REAL
THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T EXIST

Both defense and prosecution refused to question me
I was trial's only issue on which they could agree.

So, UFO buffs, if you're summoned, wear a tee shirt and don't worry.
If you can see through a cover-up--
They don't want you on a jury!

I got called to serve twice. The first time I got called for a panel but they settled before we got there. (4 bomb threats that day). The second time I got called for a panel and questioned but I think I may have been to smart for one, or both, of the councils.

Footnote to poem:

I actually had two other tee shirts I used for jury summons. One depicted classic bug eyed aliens along with the words, "THEY'RE HERE!"

The other shirt was red with a black outline of a burning house with the words: "REMEMBER WACO."

That's fabulous. I read amusing stories where people wore specific clothes and brought dodgy novels.

@Paleandpolluted86: I found that the trick to making it work was wearing very conservative clothes along with the tee shirt and keeping a straight face. I usually wore a good quality navy blue suit plus matching shoes and purse. I would stand in line wearing the suit with jacket, and then, at what I felt was the appropriate moment, remove the jacket and fold it neatly over my left arm. It usually took only a few minutes after that to be disqualified.

I'd observed that those who dressed weird got sent home to change. But I dressed very conservatively (except for the tee shirt!), a little make up, pearl earrings, ladies watch, hair done, nails polished pink...
