I Lost My Faith

As I went to pick up some food today; I started chatting with the waiter there till the food gets ready. He told me that a bigger percentage of Egyptians do not fast Ramadan now, I was pleased with this, so I was like; "Oh really"? With a big smile on my face!! Then I realised what I did as I saw his face reaction, so I repeated it again: "Oh really"? But just changed my tone and face expression. 馃槄

oh god haha.
well how did you lose your faith? what happened in your life? i did too
@Patricia12: what do you think you used to like about Islam? The rituals? the prayers? the supposed brotherhood?

@EarthlingWise: i liked the prayer yes. Rituals no noot at all.
That they all were like a big family was nice. You were a part of something. I felt strong and like God protected me and was always with me. I was confident.
I think people look for non materialistic experiences and they are made to believe only religions can provide that.
Do people expect women to be even more conservative about religious practices?

@EarthlingWise: Probably, since religion places more emphasis on women and requests things of women that it doesn't of men. But I don't think that's why the guy was surprised of my reaction, we happen to talk quite often so he probably expects that I am Muslim, and Ramadan fasting is considered such a big deal for any Muslim, even the ones who are not religious would normally fast (I guess society expectation has a role in enforcing it), so he'd be surprised if as a Muslim I did not care about Ramadan fast. To me, the fact that people are "publicly" not fasting in the Egyptian Islamic society implies to me that many are losing their religion, and are also being vocal about it, which is nice.

@ReincarnatedPhoenix: I probably shouldn't pop in like this, but this is a truly fascinating post and comments thread. Thanks so much for sharing all of it.
