I Am Alone

I'm alone but I know someday I'll be okay.

I sit here and I look around and I'm alone.
I look over to your chair and I see you but I know you're gone.
It wasn't perfect but somehow we made it work.

I think back at all the times you smiled but I never new the bravery you had.
You knew your time was coming but somehow you smiled.
Everyone said how great I was, but you were the one that was great.

I brought you to your treatments and told you how I hold onto any possibilities you'd get better.
But like you said, we were living in denial.

Thankfully for the great doctors and nurses and all the staff in Boston we were able to do different things with thew time you had left.

You were so strong. No one including me knew what intense pain you were going through. Some how you would walk with me and say it's going to get better, it's going to get better. But you knew, looking back you knew.

Like I said I sit here and I miss you and think what we could have done. At the same time I wonder what what the future holds on to me.

It's been 4 months today. Am I being selfish looking forward to my next partner?

This time is so weird !!!!!

I am so sorry for your loss. I’m a married gay man and the thought of losing my husband brings me to tears. I’d like to say it’ll get better and that you’ll find someone to replace the hole in your life, that empty chair you speak of. Thoughts and prayers for you. Peace.

@Steverick Thank you, it takes time. But I think I'm getting better.

@Stargazer89 I lost my best friend and life partner 2 months ago to coronavirus. We were a gay couple and had been together for almost 44 years and would have been married 5 years August 29, 2020. He had been ill for awhile and was in a nursing home where he contracted the virus along with 3 other residents. I had not been able to see him since mid March, but we talked many time each day by phone. Once he was admitted to the hospital, I could not see him until the day before he passed. I have never felt so alone as friends and family will not visit do to the virus, which makes life lonely. I know I will be ok, but it is so very hard right now.

@Dan0131 Your post breaks my heart. I am so sorry for your loss. As a gay married man I can not fathom losing my beloved husband period, yet alone to God damn COVID. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

I’m so very sorry. I lost my father to cancer but it doesn’t compare to a spouse.
