Hallstatt, Austria

Just close your eyes and imagine living here!
Hallstatt is a village on Lake Hallstatt's western shore in Austria's mountainous Salzkammergut region. Its 16th-century Alpine houses and alleyways are home to cafes and shops. A funicular railway connects to Salzwelten, an ancient salt mine with a subterranean salt lake, and to Skywalk Hallstatt viewing platform. A trail leads to the Echern Valley glacier garden with glacial potholes and Waldbachstrub Waterfall.
Population: 859 (2009)

Too many tourists, and I would probably feel claustrophobic being so close to the mountains. A nice place to visit, but that's all.
@Cierzo Imagine it without the tourists, though!

Not american enough looks like it needs to be liberated from the commies
@Mistakesmakeus I've had my fair share of American. This is where I want to go.
Love that place...would live to visit.
Gawd, it’s a beautiful place. But with a population of 859, everyone knows everybody else’s business.
Wot the hell is a funicular railway? 😳
@RemovedUsername1151002 it sounds so typically Austrian/Scandinavian.... They use their resources well.
