I Dropped Out of College
Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out....
I dropped out of college. There is no sugar-coating it. There is no way of saying it without sounding like an asshole. I have come to accept this. But I don't feel guilty about what I did at all. There's nothing to feel guilty for. I'm not saying that I don't regret it - simply that I'm not ashamed of it.
A lot of great people in history were college drop-outs, and I don't believe a college degree means much of anything. It's an endurance trial if anything at all. The irony of my dropping out is not lost on me however. It seems to be a common step for those who have taken the path that I now take. Timothy Leary coined the phrase for it; "Turn on, Tune in, Drop out."
My family would have me feel guilty for throwing away my college education. I refuse to. Though I regret the waste of money, this is my life and I will lead it as I see fit. We just have vastly different values, my family and I. They value education and monetary gain. I value passion and wisdom and happiness. We're worlds apart. My world, it now seems, is the world of a college drop-out.
