You could
Take $700 worth of their things and say it's to pay back for their credit card theft. Then they have to earn them back. In real life if you steal you have to make restitution, pay a fine or go to jail.
Think of how you can teach them why stealing is wrong. You might also want to explain to them how credit cards work. Let them know that it's not free money.

@midnightrose Kids don't understand about credit cards though.
When parents take away the things their kids enjoy, the kids get bored and then start pestering the parents more. So the parents end up punishing themselves in the process. My parents never took my things away, probably for that reason.
But more on my own lesson in not stealing -
I did get grounded for a few weeks as well but getting a belt across my ass was all the motivation I needed to not steal.
I am now glad the whole thing happened because what if I had not been caught and got more ambitious about stealing? We know a thief is one of the most hated things in the world.

@CestManan It can be explained to them in a way they can understand. I assume these kids are old enough to read and write. They understood how to input the credit card information so I think they are capable.
Yes, it puts some some burden on the parents but the kids wouldn't just be sitting around, they'd be working to earn their things back.
I'm glad you went on to never do that again. However, there are many kids who were raised with the belt that the lesson doesn't last so I don't think we can say it's a fix all solution. It has its flaws, just like any other form of discipline.
I'm willing to put up with a bit of inconvenience to practice an alternative means of discipline I feel is more effective at teaching what I want to instill in my kids.

@JustA So it’s simple - if Amazon say it’s too late to cancel because the order is despatching/despatched, then wait until the parcel arrives & refuse to accept it - in which case, it will be returned to the Amazon fulfilment centre. Under distance selling regulations, you have the right to cancel right up to & beyond, the point of delivery. There’s no way I’d allow those kids to get away with that. Get your money refunded, cancel your card & don’t give them your new card details

There's a simple explanation for this, punishment.
No more privileges.
Parents that separate or divorce always seem to think its acceptable to molly coddle their kids, then the kids grow and learn how to wrap their parents around their finger. With behaviour like pitting the other against each other.
It's important to treat them no different than if you were together.
Sure you separated but you have joint parental responsibility to raising decent people in society.
I'd have an open discussion with the mother about it and come to an agreement. You need this person a ally not an enemy.
I've read some of your other posts. And I can only assume your daughter sees you as a bit of a soft touch after the perfume incident. (which wasn't your fault, but clearly had more to do with tone/body language)
You need a confidence shot!

Lol my 6 year old did this to me recently. Bought $300 worth of games on amazon and then a photo book of all his goofy doodles, which I have to admit was pretty funny. He was at his dads house though, not being watched, so his dad paid me back. He knows better now, but I still cant help but laugh.
@JustA Teenagers are horrible 😂 to be fair I was also at that age! Good luck with the grounding hope they listen

@SkullsandBeauty Hell man on old TV shows, Junior could blow up a bus full of crippled nuns and the the worst that would happen would be the dad saying, "Now Junior, I am very disappointed in you but your mom and I still love you"

I guess in a way I am lucky cause my own older brother is the "Wally" type in that sense.

@PerfectIllusion I actually have several wallets but decided I didn't need to take that one. The thing is, I thought I put that one away but because I was in such a hurry..I left it on the countertop. Their grandmother is staying at the house with them

I don’t know how old your kids are, but either their purchases need to be returned or they should be assigned chores towards some kind of restitution. Why is it that they wouldn’t do this to their mother ? What does she demand from them that they don’t perceive you do ? 🙁
