I Am Confused About Human Nature

Full circle

No matter what you choose to do important work, or not.
Financial gain is good for you, or maybe not a lot.
Can any soul say hand on heart, they give without demand.
When asked to help or give a part, or lend a helping hand.
Can that same person, having need, say they have never asked?
Or felt in fact that they indeed, could do, as they are tasked.

Is it a part of human genes to give without reward,
or has this act of nature died, forgotten by the world.
Because of man’s consuming greed, and powers lust become
the reason that we have the need, to rule and overcome.
A kind and thoughtful act, oft seen, as weakness not so rare
among the fairer female race, as they’re the ones who care.

When I was in my teens, quite young, my pleasure was to give,
I chanced upon a man, head hung just struggling to live.
It was in days when cash was real and money bought a lot,
I felt no need to find a meal, so gave him all I’d got.
Two half crowns and other change, were grasped in shaky fist
And off he went to taste the food and drink, he sorely missed.

Some forty years passed day by day, and many things have changed
within the human mind and way, my nature seems estranged.
My car without regard just died, and left me high, not dry.
In early hours and darkness tied, ignored by passers-by,
My phone it wouldn’t work, I tried, so resigned me to my plight
with doors closed tight and cold inside, I settled for the night.

What seemed a long and lonesome spree, a knock upon my glass,
from someone with the RAC, to see what came to pass.
But when I said I was not part, of their home rescue plan
He left and without second thought just took off in his van.
Once more I sat, wrapped in the night, and waited further grey
No glimmer in the rain filled night, no hopes to bring the day.

As time went on, I think I slept, and suddenly “a light”.
A car had by me quickly swept, then stopped in the dark night.
Without my shout for him to stop, he came on through the rain
And asked me “can I help you pop”, its printed on my brain.
I never asked, or said I’m stuck, I barely had my say
He phoned straight for a rescue truck, then said that he would stay.

In no time at all the truck, arrived at where we were
I found it hard to believe my luck, and help free given there.
I asked him for his name so I could send him some reward,
with simple genuine reply he caught me off my guard
“Do help for someone else” he said then went along his way.
Iv’e never seen him ever since, not even to this day.

All this is true a real event, just telling how the lad
with single thoughtless good intent, gave freely what he had.
Something within this soul of mine has grown a seed anew
if there is need to help someone, I know what I will do.
It’s easy when it’s done for folk, who have less luck than you
No need to wait for pleading tone, don’t look, don’t think, just do.

What a lovely story beautifully expressed

@SW-User I originally had it on EP, but just found it in my "Documents" folder.
