I Meow At Cats

I talk to mine like they are people. Not babies, either. I talk to them. Do they understand my words? I've no idea, but they do understand my intent. I also understand what they are telling me, but not by the meows as much as body language. My older cat, the female, likes to be on my lap, but I wear very short shirts and a pair of undies when when I'm home alone which leaves my legs bare, and I won't declaw my cats. She learned quickly that she hurts me when she is on my bare legs, so she sits on the floor at my feet, meows and looks at my lap blanket. Then she sits patiently while I arrange the blanket. Then it's time for a long cuddle.

We do the same - and we're getting to pretty well understand what they're saying or wanting - we've deciphered wanting attention, not happy with something, hungry, wanting to play, wanting us to follow him to something - and pretty well gotten down a couple of responses, like a basic 'yes/no' and 'we're busy not now' response.

Some days, I think it's the most intelligent conversation I have -
