But the new laptops don't come with disc drives, huh? At least not the ones made by HP. Well shit, I guess I missed the memo on how outdated compact discs really are. 🙄

If you customize it you can get one with a disc drive but they're mostly unnecessary now. Most companies would rather you dl it directly through some complicated thing because it lets them control sharing easier

Mine came with a disc drive but no app to play them, at least no free one. The one I got was temporary;after the trial period you have to pay to buy the full package. Fucking bullshit.

Omg same problem! Just got a new laptop for Christmas and there's no cd thing! I was kinda switching to more Netflix & Hulu anyway, but I do still watch some movies on discs... or well ... I used to. 😐

HP's haven't for quite a few model generations now. We have to keep a few USB CD-drives on hand for when they are needed.

Not just compact discs, but also dvds and blu-rays :-(

They're not out of date so-much as bulky I think.

@sometimeslonelytoo This is true, they ultimately are trying to make these devices thinner and thinner, and the DVD reader is just something they can't make any smaller.

I have no disc drive in mine either. You can try an external disk drive that you can plug by USB though.
