I am Vegan

I love being vegan!! I haven't eaten any animal products in years and I love the idea that I'm helping animals, the environment and people!!
SW-User
What do you use to replenish yourself after work outs and strenuous activity? I am a bit of a gym rat and always worry that I won't be able to refuel properly if I make the jump to vegan!!! Any suggestions?
SW-User
@SW-User I sent you a DM about it!!! :) Isthat ok?

SW-User
@SW-User I have decided to give it a shot! You inspired me!!
SW-User
I really want to try this...but it seems with the pandemic that it would be even MORE expensive to make the switch. Am I crazy?
SW-User
@SW-User I don't think so, I eat a lot of oatmeal, beans, pasta, rice, peanut butter, etc. which are all super cheap! Fruits and veggies then to be more expensive but you should be eating those anyways!
SW-User
This is awesome dedication! Do you ever feel like you aren't getting enough protein, though? I worry about not repairing my muscles after working out!!
SW-User
Wow, you are super fit and healthy!! How much of it do you tie to your vegan diet?
SW-User
@SW-User I would say you can eat really healthy if you choose but you could also eat nothing but potato chips and that would be vegan but also really unhealthy.

It's like eating as an omnivour, it's perfectly healthy if you choose for it to be
SW-User
@SW-User Smart reply!! I sent you a DM if that's ok?? I'd like to learn more, please?
SW-User
Are you a fruit fiend? I like veggies, but I LOVE fruit! :)
SW-User
@SW-User same! I don't trust people who say they aren't haha
SW-User
@SW-User Sent you a DM!
SW-User
@SW-User What is your fave fruit? Pineapple for me!!!

Mathers · 61-69
Be careful with the vegan diet because long-term it does not do your health any good. That is scientific
Mathers · 61-69
I was reading a Doctor Who said a lot of girls are getting into trouble following a vegan diet. There is not enough in it to sustain you long-term@SW-User
SW-User
@Mathers doctor who???

Could you site some references? I'd like to hear more

I cook ypically what I remember having as a kid but since my friend is a vegetarian I am learning new ways to use alternative protein sources. It saves money too. Hard to replace fish and chicken though.
craigwarren987 · 31-35, M
How difficult is shopping for fresh food all the time? Is it expensive to get the nutrients you need?
SW-User
@craigwarren987 not really hard and it's not that expensive either
craigwarren987 · 31-35, M
@SW-User Do you happen to have any examples to share? Feel free to PM if easier--like maybe your weekly shopping schedule?

I am a vegetarian, and have been considering going full vegan. Any idea how difficult it might be to make the switch? Any tips? Clearly you make it work, and that is awesome!!
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
I wish I could be a vegan, but being as picky as I am, combined with my low income, makes it impossible. I'm pescetarian instead tho. Have been for years and don't misss meat at all.
SW-User
Is that you in your pic?? If so, you should be a professional trainer!! I would pay for lessons!!! Sheesh!

Milk is my favorite thing to drink, and I love meat

Deer meat is probably what I like the taste of best, but they're so cute I wouldn't want to kill one unless I was desperate. Man they taste amazing when they're already dead though!

Almost all of my favorite foods have some dairy in them, Alfredo is my favorite food, I could do without meat if I had to (begrudgingly) but I wouldn't feel as strong, I would despise going without dairy though
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
I understand your point but I do like milk, cheese, butter and eggs which all seem to be pretty mundane. From a religious standpoint there is an argument that fish and lamb must be acceptable as they were part of Jesus' diet before and after the crucifiction. Moses was ok with eating birds. Ox were sacrificed. From a sentinent point of view, yes, I think all creatures have a desire to not be eaten by others yet here we are with incisors and forward pointing eyes. We are carnivores. The next most intelligent creatures on the planet; dolphins, octopus, wolves, and great apes are also meat eaters. So perhaps we can evolve to become sensitive to the needs of our coinhabitants of this world but there will still be a need to feed our inner wolf.
SW-User
@Tastyfrzz Not sure what you mean by milk, cheese, butter and eggs being "mundane"?

To your religious points, what if I'm not religious? What if I don't think religion is either correct or a good place to get my morals from?

Its true that predation exist in nature but that doesn't mean that it makes it ethical. Don't forget in nature there is violence between animals of the same species, rape, etc. Point being maybe nature isn't the best place get our ethics from.

@SW-User Over a year and a half later, I still 😍 your detailed and thoughtful reply and the post itself. 😊
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@diablo still not giving up my dairy products.
AmarettoZen · 41-45, M
I'm not turning vegan for ethical reasons. I'm becoming a dietary vegan because it is proven healthier than every other decently healthy diet. Also religion is made-up garbage and we know when and how most religions were dreamt up so that has nothing to do with anything. Ethics are a product of evolution, which makes perfect sense when you think about it. I love milk, cheese, eggs, and butter. I also love cheeseburgers, but at some point it's time to actually wake up, be a grown-up, and pay closer attention to science. Here's how I feel about religion: "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things."
SW-User
@AmarettoZen Well what ever the reason, happy you made the decision!!
AmarettoZen · 41-45, M
I just started being vegan as my resolution for the new year. It has only been a week but it really hasn't been a problem. I should've done it a long time ago. I'm doing it for health though. The ovo-lacto substitutes are delicious.
SW-User
How expensive is this to keep up? I have debated it, but seems like it would be pretty costly!
SW-User
@SW-User Thank you for the reply!! May I PM you for more info?
SW-User
@SW-User abso-feakin-lutely!!
SW-User
@SW-User Thank you!
ShadowSoul · 26-30, M
More than the ideology itself, on a consumption level, it's much healthier for you.
JJKale · 56-60, M
Is that why you are orange?
SW-User
@JJKale lol probably not!

AmarettoZen · 41-45, M
@SW-User Actually vegans consume far more carotenoids which does add a statistically preferred yellow hue to the skin.
JimboUk · 31-35, M
But vegan food is so boring

That video didn't really address veganism itself but more so just talked about the way vegans present themselves. And I have to admit sometimes vegans are too preachy. Not that I don't think its important what there are saying I just think it annoys people too much.
John2019 · 36-40, M
It's good that you can see that they are too preachy at least 😁
Jmod42 · 26-30, M
If you had a super power what would it be?
You realize cows give off lots of methane gas and by allowing the animal population to increase you are actually hurting the environment.

If you want to be vegan be so.
SW-User
@Justafantasy But isn't the only reason we have so many animals because we eat meat?
@SW-User and if we stopped culling the herds they'd breed uncontrollably and we'd have a lot more
SW-User
@Justafantasy Clearly you're trolling lol
SeadragonPrincess · 26-30, F
I don't get how it's helping to love every single animal, especially cats which everyone seem to do. If you shot cats you can save a ton of animals from extinction
SW-User
@SeadragonPrincess could you explain?
SeadragonPrincess · 26-30, F
@SW-User people shoot iguanas in florida, they eat plants. They bash their heads in too, they use reptiles as live bait for fish when you can catch a fish with some corn...yeah iguanas are invasive but they only endanger some species, where as cats are invasive and wiped out entire species, like fully gone. Poof. Gone. No more of that species of reptile or bird, not in this world at least...and some cat people let them out willingly to cause extinction. However when you treat them like iguanas and shoot them humansly people scream animal abuse
SW-User
I have debated trying this...how hard is it to switch over? Do you miss meat at all?
SW-User
@SW-User it's a little hard at first but once you get used to it it's fine
MinMan80 · 41-45, M
You know most makeup companies use animal parts in cosmetics
SW-User
@MinMan80 Yeah, I haven't heard of many cosmetics companies using animal parts directly but many cosmetics companies do test on animals. Which is super cruel.
Serkan · 61-69, M
@SW-User you all right
Serkan · 61-69, M
same of my collega are vegan
