when you REALLY think about it....a hair in your food isnt that gross.
ok hear me out.... when you go to a restaurant or even fast food, most of the time the cooks hair are not in hair nets. even in a ponytail, hair is swinging left and right over the prep table all day long. Im actually shocked MORE hair doesnt end up in food.
and while on one hand, Id like all cooks to wear hairnets..... I worked at a place once and had to wear one and....I wouldnt wish that on anyone.
not only that but, what do you think is on the hair? germs? you got more germs from that table and silverware you're touching than that hair
So what do you think?
edit: yes its gross but the thought in this is more in depth than just "ewww". hence my below comments
@SweetNSassy its so crazy though watching all of these cooking shows (well im stuck on masterchef and hells kitchen) and no one ever wears a net. I know its because it doesnt look good on tv but I wonder if gordon ramsay makes his chefs wear nets in his actual kitchens? 🤔 just know that steak and shake does require them lol
@HellsBelle 🤔good question lol and come to think of it, My friend that owns a bar, doesn’t ever have one on when I see him and he sometimes helps out the cook 🤨🤷♀️🤣
@MrBrownstone shrug, even from a pube. you would be shocked how many people dont wash their hands after the bathroom and then go touch door knobs and keypads and tables. then you touch it and touch your face and there ya go. germs galore. a hair is just a large tangible germ which is why people get so grossed out. but people are probably coughing and sneezing on your food too...
if restaurants want to trade as a professional eatery, they will wear hairnets, they don't win awards by mistakingly putting hair in your food, its not an oh well kinda thing
and on the other point, we don't eat hair? you cant digest hair.
@Unlearn well yes it is of course gross. but some people really flip out. this question stemmed from an episode of hells kitchen where a customer found a hair in their food and all chefs shamed this one chef and really blamed and hated them. its literally an accident
Just in terms of basic hygiene, not everyone washes their hair regularly, and while one can imagine all kinds of nastiness in an unknown kitchen, a hairnet just means one less source of dirt in one’s food.
