Director focus #5 - Takeshi Kitano

Beat Takeshi is more known in Japan as being a tv comedian, internationally his films made him famous, probably cuz Japanese channels showing him doing his thing are only seen by those with satelite dishes, or i dunno. Anyways, his films are growing on me big time. A youtuber i like Daisuke, who reviews alot of Criterion releases had done a series on Takeshi, and it planted the seed for me and the clincher was when i was listening to some commentaries on other stuff, they would mention him, so it was like getting a 2nd opinion. He's a very interesting guy, and so are his films, the crime films as well as the other ones display a unique detachment, with sudden bursts of violence, which are over quickly. This morning before getting my 12th in the mail (Dolls) i share this post during a rewatch of Violent Cop, i plan to chronologically go through them all, and eventually get back to Daisuke, to say what my favorites are, cuz he asked, being such a nice fella. Thanks internet in general, spread the love of cinema everyone!!! 💚✌😌
